Allplan is a company specialising in the development of BIM software solutions for the AEC sector (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) industry, offering dedicated BIM design tools for architecture, structural engineering and infrastructure engineering. As a founding company of the Nemetschek Group, the brand develops digital platforms focused on integrated design, interdisciplinary collaboration and the management of the entire project lifecycle. Its portfolio includes solutions for architecture, interior design, civil and infrastructure engineering (roads, bridges and tunnels), steel detailing, precast concrete design and production, and construction planning. Through cloud technologies, openBIM interoperability and advanced automation capabilities, Allplan supports the digital transformation of the construction industry by providing tools that optimise project timelines, coordination and the overall quality of the design process.

Allplan BIM solutions for architecture, engineering and infrastructure

With its "Design to Build" approach, Allplan develops software solutions designed to integrate the entire construction process, from the initial concept through to execution. The company's objective is to provide a central platform for the AEC industry capable of supporting the delivery of sustainable, functional and technically advanced buildings and infrastructure while improving operational efficiency across every stage of the project workflow.
The ALLPLAN platform brings together BIM modelling, technical documentation, structural analysis and multidisciplinary project coordination within a single digital environment. The software is used across architecture, infrastructure and engineering thanks to its ability to manage complex workflows and support activities ranging from conceptual design to prefabrication and construction. Parametric and multi-material modelling capabilities enable the development of highly sophisticated projects with exceptional levels of precision and interoperability, while automated processes and AI-powered visualisation significantly accelerate both design and review activities.
A key component of the ecosystem is Bimplus, the openBIM cloud-based Common Data Environment (CDE) developed to enable collaborative coordination across every discipline involved in a project. Built on cloud technology, Bimplus allows model sharing, information management and activity monitoring throughout the entire lifecycle of an asset, from design and construction to building operation. The platform facilitates seamless collaboration between architects, engineers, contractors and clients through real-time coordination tools and integrated validation workflows.
The Allplan ecosystem includes fully integrated solutions for the different areas of design:
- Allplan for BIM architectural design and structural engineering
- Allplan Civil for civil and infrastructure engineering, including roads, bridges and tunnels
- Allplan Precast for the design and production of precast concrete elements
- SDS2 for steel structure detailing
- Bimplus for multidisciplinary openBIM collaboration
- Scalypso for analysis and reconstruction using terrestrial and mobile 3D laser scanner data
- Maxon One, a creative suite for rendering, animation, motion graphics and architectural visualisation.

Allplan and the history of digitalization in the construction industry

The origins of Allplan are closely linked to the history of Nemetschek, founded in Munich in 1963 by Professor Georg Nemetschek as an engineering practice specialising in the development of digital tools for the construction sector. At a time when the application of computer technology to the building industry was still in its infancy, the company began developing software dedicated to structural analysis and advanced finite element calculations, anticipating the progressive digital transformation of the AEC industry.
In the following years, Nemetschek strengthened its international presence through the opening of European subsidiaries and the expansion of its software business. At the same time, Georg Nemetschek pursued an academic career at the Technical University of Munich, promoting the integration of research, technical education and digital innovation within the construction sector. In 1981, ALLPLAN was established, becoming one of the first companies to develop a CAD platform specifically designed for architects and engineers. The launch of Allplan V1 in 1984 marked a significant milestone in the evolution of digital design, introducing advanced tools for technical drafting and the digital management of building projects.
In 1997, Nemetschek Programmsysteme GmbH was converted into a public limited company, and in 1999 the Group was listed on the stock exchange. Today, Allplan operates internationally as part of the Nemetschek Group, developing BIM technologies and cloud-based solutions for integrated and collaborative design. Headquartered in Munich, the company continues to invest in technologies focused on openBIM interoperability, process automation and the integration of design, analysis, prefabrication and construction, contributing to the ongoing digital evolution of the construction industry.
