Artist Deirdre Dyson has been designing contemporary, luxury rugs for more than 20 years and produces a new themed collection each year. Using the finest and most luxurious materials, Deirdre Dyson's award-winning rugs are either hand-knotted in Nepal by Tibetan experts, practiced in this ancient skill, or handmade in the United Kingdom. From her contemporary gallery, located on King's Road in London's Chelsea Design Quarter, Deirdre Dyson and her dedicated team offer full-service custom rug design for commercial and residential projects. All of Deirdre Dyson's custom designs are made to order from a palette of more than 5,000 colors, using natural materials: wool, silk or a combination of both.
Art and craftsmanship of Deirdre Dyson rugs
Quality craftsmanship takes time. Deirdre Dyson rugs are hand-knotted and usually take 14-16 weeks to weave, once the artwork has been approved and signed off. From Deirdre's initial ideas and sketches, through the skills of the weavers and the London team, only the finest materials are used in the creation of modern, interior-quality rugs. A design consultation service is available in the London gallery, located in the heart of the Chelsea Design Quarter. The Tibetan wool used in "Goodweave certified" carpets is rich in natural oils that make it not only soft and naturally stain-resistant, but also very durable. The premium pure silk incorporated in many of our designs is smooth, refreshing and full of vitality.
Lady Dyson, known for her subtle and inventive rug designs, is first and foremost a painter and has maintained her work as an artist alongside her design work. In March 2023, she exhibited new artworks that openly reveal the interaction between painting and design. The trompe-l'oeil drawings and subtle effects of light and color achieved in the past through silk and wool, from sketches originally drafted in pencil, are here translated into oil paintings. Exploiting the potential of paint to create multiple overlapping layers of color, Dyson transforms complex geometric patterns and images drawn from natural phenomena into a series of vibrant works of art. All reflect his interest in pattern, movement, light and shadow, and the multifaceted impact of refracted light on form and color.
