Knauf Insulation is a company within the Knauf Group specializing in solutions for thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, and fire protection in buildings. With its Italian headquarters in San Raffaele Cimena, near Turin, the company offers glass mineral wool, rock mineral wool, and blown-in glass mineral wool products for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Its portfolio addresses the requirements of roofs, external walls, ventilated façades, ETICS systems, and horizontal and vertical internal partitions, with a constant focus on energy efficiency, indoor comfort, fire safety, and indoor air quality.

Knauf Insulation mineral wool for thermal and acoustic insulation

The Knauf Insulation range includes glass mineral wool insulation produced with ECOSE® Technology, available in rolls and panels, either unfaced or combined with technical facings such as kraft paper, glass veil, or aluminum vapor barriers. Glass mineral wool stands out for its lightweight composition, ease of installation, thermal and acoustic performance, and fire resistance, making it suitable for a wide variety of building assemblies. Alongside this product line, the company manufactures rock mineral wool, designed for applications requiring thermal and acoustic performance, compressive strength, and fire resistance simultaneously, such as ETICS systems, timber roofs, ventilated façades, and high-energy-efficiency buildings. Among the company’s most representative solutions is NaturBoard, a rock mineral wool range for interior thermal and acoustic insulation produced with ECOSE® Technology. This technology uses a bio-based binder derived from rapidly renewable natural raw materials, without added formaldehyde, phenols, artificial dyes, or acrylics. Products manufactured with ECOSE® Technology are characterized by low VOC emissions and have achieved the Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification for indoor air quality. The portfolio also includes blown-in glass mineral wool produced with a high percentage of recycled material, developed for renovation projects and the insulation of cavities, attics, and building voids.

Knauf Insulation: history, research, and sustainability in the insulation sector

Knauf Insulation originated in Germany as part of the Knauf Group and has been operating in the insulation sector for more than forty years. Its development has been driven by the growing demand for buildings that are more energy-efficient, safer, and more comfortable, with solutions designed to reduce energy loss, improve acoustic comfort, and contribute to passive fire protection. The brand’s international presence spans more than forty countries, nearly six thousand employees, and thirty production facilities, reflecting an industrial structure strongly focused on materials research and process innovation. A significant milestone in the company’s evolution was the introduction of ECOSE® Technology in 2009 for the production of glass mineral wool. The technology was subsequently extended to rock mineral wool, broadening the application of insulation materials designed to reduce environmental impact throughout the product life cycle and improve the overall sustainability of buildings. Knauf Insulation’s approach combines technical performance, regulatory compliance, and environmental quality, providing architects, engineers, and construction professionals with solutions for new-build projects and energy renovation interventions in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
