OLI is a Portuguese company specializing in flush systems and bathroom solutions, with a production range that includes concealed and exposed cisterns, flush plates, frames, mechanisms, sanitary modules, smart toilet systems, flush-to-floor shower trays, and traps. Founded in Aveiro in 1954, OLI-Sistemas Sanitários S.A. is now the largest manufacturer of flush systems in Southern Europe and operates in more than 80 countries with an offering focused on water efficiency, ease of installation, accessibility, and safe use. Technical research and design are the two main pillars of the brand’s identity, which develops solutions conceived for new builds, renovations, and refurbishment projects, with particular attention to reducing consumption and improving the overall bathroom experience.

OLI flush systems and flush plates for the contemporary bathroom

The OLI catalog revolves around concealed sanitary systems, a sector in which the company built its specialization, gradually expanding the range with adjustable frames, exposed cisterns, valves, and accessories, up to more recent solutions such as smart toilets and coordinated ceramic sanitaryware. Current production combines technical performance, consumption control, and essential formal language: a clear example is the flush plate collection, one of the brand’s most recognizable product families, with lines that include mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and no-touch versions for residential settings, hospitality, and public spaces. On a functional level, OLI continues to work on optimizing the dual flush system, a technology the company introduced as early as the 1990s and developed to help reduce water consumption, as well as on systems capable of improving accessibility for users with reduced mobility. Alongside this technical approach is an ongoing dialogue with design: over the years, OLI has collaborated with architects and designers such as Eduardo Souto de Moura, author of the SM15 plate, Romano Adolini, designer of the INO-X series, Álvaro Siza Vieira, who created Trumpet, and Alessio Pinto, designer of the Less Is More flush plate, which won both the Red Dot Award and the iF Design Award in 2021. The combination of product engineering, hygiene research, and attention to formal detail makes OLI a significant presence in the landscape of technical solutions for the contemporary bathroom.

The history, innovation, and international growth of OLI

OLI’s history began on March 1, 1954, in Aveiro as Oliveira & Irmão S.A., a family-run business that, over the decades, moved through different areas of activity before focusing, from the 1980s onward, on sanitary systems and the industrial production of cisterns. This specialization marked a decisive turning point in the company’s evolution, further strengthened in 1993 when it joined the Italian Silmar group. Another key milestone came in 1994, when OLI developed one of the first dual flush valves capable of reducing water consumption by up to 50%, introducing a theme that remains central to the brand’s manufacturing philosophy. In 2007, the company also began implementing the Kaizen method for the continuous improvement of processes, with measurable effects on production efficiency and response times to the market. Today, the industrial complex in Aveiro controls the entire supply chain, from concept to production and commercialization, and continues to invest in research and development, patents, product design, and expanded manufacturing capacity: among the latest developments, in January 2024 the company inaugurated the tenth expansion of its industrial site in Portugal with an investment of 12 million euros, further strengthening its commitment to sustainability. Along this path, industrial scale coexists with a strong attention to design culture, which has enabled OLI to position itself as a technical partner for architecture, construction, and interior design, especially in the field of high-efficiency bathroom systems.
