Whether they are high or low,
stools with backrests inevitably improve seating compared to corresponding furniture without them, providing a supporting surface and thus relieving the back. Depending on its function, however, the height of the backrest may vary: short duration seating will be better matched with barely-there backrests, while
bar stools, to make them more comfortable for prolonged relaxation, will be better matched with high, padded backrests. The various models available are increasingly trying to renew the design of the backrest which, in
low stools, often re-proposes the form and function of a
handle, a practical extension of the structure suitable for easy movement. In some cases the stool with backrest also integrates armrests, for an even more enveloping seat, as is the case, for example, with
kitchen stools, which ensure stability of use and comfort even when the arms are busy eating.
