Sikkens decorative paints and colour systems for interior design

The Sikkens portfolio includes an extensive selection of interior and exterior paints, water-based enamels, wall coatings, decorative finishes and specialist products for the protection of timber and building surfaces. Alongside its professional paint range, the brand develops decorative effects that allow spaces to be personalised through textures, visual depth and tactile finishes. Collections such as Stucco Antico, Alpha Tacto and Alpha Metallic interpret different design languages, ranging from mineral-inspired surfaces to soft-touch finishes and metallic effects created for contemporary interiors. A defining element of the Sikkens identity is its commitment to colour. The Color Concept system, an evolution of the brand's historic colour collection, is an essential design tool for architects and designers when defining colour palettes and developing interior schemes. Every year, research carried out by the AkzoNobel Global Aesthetic Center identifies the leading international colour trends, translating them into new collections and colour combinations that reflect the evolving language of architecture and contemporary living. Alongside its products, Sikkens provides consultancy, training and design support services for professionals, contributing to projects that successfully integrate aesthetic, functional and technical performance requirements. Its commitment to sustainability is reflected in the development of low-emission products and the continuous optimisation of manufacturing processes aimed at reducing environmental impact.

Sikkens: a history of innovation in colour, materials and architecture

The origins of the Sikkens brand date back to 1792, when Wiert Willem Sikkens established a craft-based production of lacquers and coatings in the Netherlands for professional painters and decorators. Throughout the nineteenth century, the company steadily expanded its operations by investing in new manufacturing facilities and materials research, developing innovative products that helped establish the brand across numerous European markets. During the twentieth century, Sikkens broadened its activities beyond industrial coatings by developing systems specifically designed for the construction and architectural sectors, introducing new technologies for the protection and decoration of surfaces. Its integration into the Akzo Group and the subsequent creation of AkzoNobel further strengthened the brand's international presence. Today, Sikkens products are distributed worldwide and the brand is recognised as one of the leading references in the professional paints industry. Active in Italy since 1958, Sikkens operates through AkzoNobel's Decorative Paints division, with its manufacturing facility in Castelletto Ticino, in the province of Novara, supported by a network of more than 400 specialised distributors. Over the years, the brand has contributed to numerous restoration and conservation projects involving Italy's architectural heritage, playing an important role in the development of Colour Plans for many historic town centres. Today, Sikkens continues to invest in colour research, material innovation and the development of decorative solutions that respond to the needs of contemporary architecture, combining aesthetic excellence, technical reliability and a strong commitment to sustainability.
